Xtra Innings Program
2013 WMBA XTRA INNINGS PROGRAM
Do you have a child who just can’t get enough baseball? XTRA Innings may be the solution! XTRA Innings is a program designed for WMBA House League players who would like to play some XTRA baseball during the regular season. While the average caliber of play is typically higher than that of house league baseball, the focus of the program will still be on having fun, fair play, and improving baseball skills. For the 2013 season XTRA Innings will be offered for the Mosquito and Peewee divisions and may be offered at Rookie Ball and Bantam if there is sufficient interest. XTRA Innings is a great opportunity for players to improve their baseball fielding, pitching, and batting skills through additional games.
Please stay tuned for more details regarding the 2013 XTRA Innings program. We are still in the planning stages however we are looking to add to the success of last years program.
WHAT SOME PARENTS HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE 2012 XTRA INNINGS PROGRAM
“Our son had wonderful experience with XTRA Innings. this program gave him an experience of a higher level of play and development that left him feeling confident and excited about playing baseball! We were extremely impressed with the planning and consideration that went into making this an atmosphere of fun, development and competition! Thanks to everyone for all of their hard work, a great success!”
“XTRA Innings was by far the best baseball experience that we have had with the WMBA and we feel that this was entirely attributable to the excellent coaches. They kept the game fun and relaxed while still teaching the boys the fundamentals. We cannot thank you enough for all the hard work that went into every aspect of the games.”
2012 XTRA INNINGS PROGRAM - END OF SEASON RECAP
For the 2012 XTRA Inning’s season we had two divisions (Peewee and Mosquito) participating in the program. While we were hoping for four teams per division, we had enough very keen and talented players to have two teams in each division. There were 25 Peewee players and 20 Mosquito players that registered and played. Instead of playing double headers as originally planned, the season consisted of four Sunday evening games beginning with our season opener held on July 8th. It was our intent, should the 2.5hr time limit permit, to complete full 9-inning games.
The XTRA Innings program began with a 2 hour pre-season evaluation camp held on June 23 which was run similar to a rep tryout. Players were evaluated on fielding, throwing, catching, batting, and pitching.
A player draft was held on June 29th where the coaches selected players for their respective rosters with the goal of creating two evenly balanced teams - and based on the season, it would appear that we were successful in that goal.
The season consisted of three regular season games and a one game Championship game. XTRA Innings games were played Sunday evenings - with the majority of these games finishing under the lights as the games were 2.5 hours in length.
The Championship games, which featured pre-game music, walk-up music and announcers, were held on July 29th and both games were very exciting - and won by the home team in the bottom of the final inning. In the XTRA Innings Mosquito Championship game, the Blue Jays fought their way back from an early 9-1 deficit and won 13-12 in the bottom of the 7th inning against the Phillies. The XTRA Innings Peewee Championship game was just as exciting. The game went into two extra Innings with the Indians coming out victorious over the Yankees by a score of 14-13.
