Blastball is a game played by 4 and 5 year old boys and girls. It emphasizes the importance of fun, teamwork and sportsmanship. It teaches the early fundamentals of hitting, running, throwing and fielding.
There are no formal field positions, but fair territory is designated by the blastbase. This has a built in horn, which honks when stepped on. Each batter in turn attempts to hit the ball past the fair distance marker and run to the blastbase. When the ball is stopped by a fielder, he/she holds the ball up and yells BLAST before the runner honks the base. If the fielder yells BLAST before the batter honks the base, the batter is out. If the batter honks the base before the fielder yells BLAST, the batter scores a run.
No score is kept; fielders and batters change places after everyone has batted. Game play is one hour long, starting at 6:30 PM. Fields vary based on the schedule set at the beginning of the season. The season begins in the second week of May and ends at the end of July.
Required equipment includes a regulation baseball glove, good running shoes or plastic cleats, a jock or jill strap, and full length pants (no jeans, tear-aways or shorts; baseball pants or sweat pants are acceptable). Players will be provided a team jersey and a baseball hat.
