How long is the season?
The length of the season depends on the division your child is in. For instructional leagues (Blastball, T-Ball and First Pitch) the season begins in early May and wraps the end of July. For the older divisions, the season also begins in early May and wraps up after playoffs in mid-August. This is dependent on Mother Nature and the ability to get games in with the weather that we face.
Can I make a special request for my child to play with a specific coach/player?
When you are registering there is a special request section. We try our best to accommodate requests where we can.

What night of the week will my child play on?
Scheduling cannot be finalized until we know how many kids are enrolled in each division and we have confirmed diamond time from the Town of Whitby; however, each year in February, we try to put a tentative schedule of playing nights together. Please check the home page for this.
If there are multiple weekdays noted for your division, Friday would always be an alternative night as we try to keep the number of Friday games down to a minimum as we know there could be conflicts with summer activities.
Can my child play in a different division than his birth year?
Any request to play outside your child's birth year must be forwarded in writing to registrar. It will require board approval. As this does take some time requests must be made prior to March 1st of the season.

Where will my child play
Where will my child play?
WMBA plays on various diamonds throughout Whitby and Brooklin. Diamonds are assigned to divisions based on the size of the field and the capabilities of the players, so the older age divisions play on the larger, mounded diamonds. As our diamond allocation from the Town of Whitby varies from year to year, and our registration by division varies as well, we are unable to advise in advance of the season where children will play.

Can my daughter play baseball?
We welcome all players to learn the game of baseball. Our experience is that we have a mixture of boys and girls in the instructional divisions (Blastball, T-Ball and First Pitch) and fewer girls as the kids get older. If your daughter wishes to play baseball, we are the solution! However, if she wishes to play ball with other girls, she may wish to join Whitby Girls Softball or Whitby Rep Fastball (links are available on our Home page).
What Equipment does my child need to play baseball?
At the first team meeting, yor child will be give a team jersey and baseball cap. Other wise the only required equipment are comfortable, pants, jock, runners, and a baseball glove. Helmets and all other ball equipment are provided by the league. Howver you may choose your own batting helmet.
Please note that all bats used must be approved by the WMBA. Each season you will be advised where the bats can be approved.
What kind of baseball will my child play?
Our website contains a summary of each division; see House League > Divisions. Children start in Blastball with a game that emphasizes baseball skills such as hitting, running, throwing and fielding. Each year during the instructional leagues (T-Ball and First Pitch) new skills are learned so when children begin Rookie Ball they are able to play baseball using a pitching machine. By Mosquito, children start pitching and normal baseball rules apply with a few exceptions. These exceptions diminish in the older divisions.
Can my child tryout for Rep?
We welcome all players to try out to represent Whitby in the representative program. Tryouts usually take place in mid-September; keep an eye on our website for details. Players must register and pay the basic registration fee for their division and provide a copy of their receipt to the coach prior to trying out. If the player does not make a representative team, the registration fee is transferred to their house league season. If, after tryouts, the player chooses not to play rep or house league, they can request a refund. Our refund policy is available on our home page under policies.
What does the rep program involve? time? money?
Players chosen for the Rep program are required to pay an additional Rep surcharge, which is $320 in 2010. They will be expected to play more games and attend more practices, sometimes up to five days a week during the season which may not include tournament play. Coaches determine if winterball practices are expected of their players and this should be communicated to families during tryouts. In addition to the Rep surcharge, teams will be repsponsible for tournament costs, apparrel, and other team expenses which will be paid by families or through sponsors or fundraising. Teams are not allowed to collect more money in sponsorship / fundraising that will be reasonably spent on the team during the season. Equipment purchased for the team must be returned to WMBA for distribution to that same team next season.
Can I phone Whitby Minor Baseball Association?
WMBA is a non-profit organization operated completely by volunteers. We have no operating office or a dedicated phone line. We currently have 26 board members with different responsibilities and posting personal phone numbers is not practical.
